I was talking about it with friends and one of my friends recommended Shawn. I trust my friend and that gave me the first piece of comfort to go ahead and have a conversation. From our initial meeting to the finish of my renos, I was thoroughly impressed. Shawn kept me informed throughout the process as well as sent me pictures as I was out of town. Shawn recently did some work on my nasty cold cellar. Some water had leaked in over time and as a result the paint was badly peeling and mould was beginning to form. He came in and scraped down all the paint, filled all areas where there could be water penetration and sealed the walls and floor. As a result, I have a wonderful new cold cellar that is bright, clean and organized. I am very pleased.
Shawn was very professional. He answered my call promptly, came by to have a look and set up a time to do the job. He always arrived exactly when he said he would. He left the work site very tidy each night. When the job was finished he gave me a detailed bill.

I found Shawn's name through the Leaside Community Facebook site when someone was looking for a painter. He posted a response and I took that opportunity to contact him before someone else scooped him up. He was very responsive and made the trip to my mother's house that needed a main floor paint job and wallpaper removal and some other handyman type of work. He provided a detailed quote which was very reasonable and I never looked back.
We didn't have to wait long and he arrived when he said and let us know if/when he needed to wait a day to return. He leaves the work space exceptionally neat and tidy, unlike anything I've ever seen. His meticulous detailed work is unrivalled. My mother called me to let me know he took the hooks off the wall, put them in individual baggies and labeled each one so they wouldn't get mixed up. That's the type of work you can expect from Shawn.
Stripping wallpaper off a wall after 30+ plus years is no easy feat but Shawn did a fantastic job and the walls were perfect when he painted. I've never seen a painter that does such precision work before. He also repaired the kitchen cupboard when he noticed it was falling down.
Aside from painting, Shawn was able to repair the space where a closet was removed. He excels at this type of work. We are hiring him to build a front hall storage bench as well. I would highly recommend Shawn. Snap him up folks because talent like this is hard to come by.

There are some things that I know I shouldn’t attempt. I don’t have the skills, the attention to detail, or the finesse that is needed. Luckily, I know Shawn.
We asked him if he could sand and refinish an arbor on our back deck. He could, and quoted a reasonable price, and a great timeline - which he met, even when Mother Nature intervened against us. But what struck me the most about our experience was the little things. Every evening the work area was left pristine, he gave us regular updates on the progress and did a job so thorough it looked better than when the arbor was first built.
Having gone through a number of renovations I’ve seen the good, the bad, and the ugly of working with contractors. But our experience with The Details has unequivocally been the best.

I needed a few things done around the house that were beyond my knowledge (or more specifically my interest), so I was looking for someone to do them for me. I had some shelves that I wanted to put up and this was the thing I was most concerned about. Last summer I had bought some wood from a place that tore down old barns. I saw what ended up being a floor joist from the 1880s so I had them cut it in half so I could put them up as 2 separate shelves, however I was nervous about putting them up myself because they were slightly bowed and I didn't want to screw anything up. Shawn took his time to make sure that everything was measured properly and even though the shelf was slightly bowed, he knew I wanted it to at least appear straight and he did that. Outside of the actual work, he was there when he said he would be, he was very careful throughout the house (he even brought indoor shoes), he had carpet pads which he put at the foot of his ladder so as to not scratch my floors and he cleaned up after everything. If he has that attention to detail with the small jobs, I can only imagine he’ll be just as great with the big ones. I would highly recommend him.

There are lots of differences between advertsing and home renovation. But it is certainly refreshing to see someone who understands that they are both service businesses.
